Building an infrastructure of educational support continues to be one of the reasons why Pinellas County is leading Florida (and many other states) in attracting new businesses. Maintaining a competent labor pool through such support is only balanced by the need to attract high wage businesses. Education is the key and certainly a top priority in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.

At the college level, The University Partnership Center (UPC) is a new program offering 4-year degree programs of major universities utilizing St. Petersburg College facilities. The first of its kind in Florida and only one of a handful nationwide, the UPC will provide access to bachelor and master's degrees through interactive partnerships with seven universities.

Beyond these efforts, addressing the needs of unemployed, Pinellas County residents as well as those transitioning from welfare to work, is an important part in the development of the workforce.
