Pin ellas County leads Florida's 21-county High Tech Corridor with 29.9 percent of med-tech companies, according to a University of South Florida study. Hillsborough follows with 17 percent. Together, they offer the heaviest concentration of med-tech firms in Central Florida, an area that now ranks among the nation's top five medical clusters and continues to grow rapidly. World-wide, businesses took to Pinellas County Economic Development's website www.siliconbay.org, with 3,600 visits in March, 4,836 visits in April, and in May, more than 3,800 paid a visit to the site, which features a GIS Site Assistant, statistics and forms, a networking directory (with product search), demographics and trends information, business facts, incentive information, and realocation services. Watch your mail for the 2002 Business Assistance Survey, Pinellas County Economic Development's biennial questionnaire, which will be mailed to 10,000 businesses by July 1. The survey is designed to investigate the opinions and attitudes of county businesses, identify needed programs and key trends in education and job training, transportation, recreation, entertainment, tourism, quality of life, and business performance.
